The Parish Council

Finchampstead Parish has a population of around 12,000 and covers a large area comprising both rural and residential areas.  It runs from the Inchcape Garage in Finchampstead Road in the north, to the Blackwater River in the south and from Crowthorne Station in the east to the Reading Road in the west.

Finchampstead Parish Council is the first level of local government, with the greatest local knowledge of its area. The 17 Parish Councillors aim to protect and improve the Parish for its residents, through work undertaken by the Councils five committees covering Amenities, Finance, Planning, Rights of Way and Roads & Road Safety.  We also have representation on various local groups and organisations.

The full Council meeting, known as Main Council, meets every month except August, and involves all 17 Councillors. The May meeting of Main Council is known as the Annual Parish Meeting, and is a special meeting where the Chairman of the Council and other important positions are decided.

The Planning Committee also meets monthly.  The Finance and General Management Committee meets six times a year while the Amenities, Rights of Way, and Roads & Road Safety Committees meet 3 or 4 times a year. Each Committee has up to 8 members, not including the Chairman of the Council who can attend any meeting. The Council also has several Working Groups which meet as required.

A special meeting for the parishioners of Finchampstead is held in March each year.  This is known as the Annual Gathering and is an opportunity for residents to hear about the work of the Parish Council, and to meet the Councillors and representatives of local organisations.
